I turned a ₹100 investment into ₹1,00,00,000.
No, I didn’t invest in Doge Coin. And no, this isn’t a pyramid scheme.
This is just the story of a YouTube Super Chat that led to me building my agency.
In 2020, I was graduating from my video editing course without any job opportunities.
I was very anxious — convincing my family about pursuing an unorthodox career was difficult enough, and to tell them I didn’t have a job would be terrifying.
What I did have was my skillset and like every teenager, an obsession with YouTubers.
I particularly enjoyed watching reaction videos, and one of my favourites was a guy named Jaby Koay with 1 million+ subs.
One day while watching his videos, I realised his editing could be better, and thought:
”Oh, maybe I could help him!”
However, I had no way of contacting him.
This is where the ₹100 came in. In one of his YouTube streams, there was an option to send a Super Chat message which basically pins your message to his screen for a sum of money.
So I took the leap and said -
“Hey Jaby and Achara. I am a video editor. If you need one let me know”.
As simple as that, with my Instagram handle in case they were interested.
(I had a fanboy moment and added the last line right before I sent it) 😂
I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but to my surprise, he not only saw the message but his co-presenter Achara checked out my work then and there, and said they’ll be in touch.
Things worked out, they gave me a trial project, and we’ve continued working together since so I’m assuming they liked my work. 😛
Jaby also referred me to a number of his friends, which grew my agency and helped us hit 1 Cr ARR in 2 years.
I’m so grateful for this experience because it showed me that opportunities won’t always be handed to you, you have to make them for yourself.
So get out of your comfort zone, and shoot your shot! You be surprised to see what the future has in store for you.
